okay as of now, it seems like only one company i can find that can give us funny colours like MAROON and SAFETY GREEN (sorry i know that's kind of yellow but this company does not have lime green lol, only the flourescent green that traffic police wear) imports their hoodies (they have zipper and non-zipper!) from UNITED STATES OF AMOIRICAAA. so what does that mean?

a zipper hoodie with icon print on left breast + a slogan (eg "give me 409 or else i die") at the hem, near the butt = $42

a non-zipper hoodie, with same design as t-shirt: $39

as for wah mee company, they only have black darkblue cream and grey as base colours, but it's like 20 bucks lol.

and as for windbreaker, siyi conveniently lost my namecard for this fbt shop in toa payoh that sells super cheap fbt stuff so i can't call them. but alternatively, we can look for a tyr company. i think they're almost the same quality/price.

Okay, updates on the jacket/hoodie thing.

I haven't gone to go check out the prices of jacket, hoodie or zipper hoodie respectively, but I think it's quite commensensical that if we have a hoodie or a zipper hoodie then we'll have to have those kind of picture picture design, which definitely costs more, especially in the case of the zipper hoodie. So there are 6 alternatives for hoodie/zipper hoodie, and if I estimate correctly, the cost of the 6 choices are as follows, with the most ex being choice 6:

Pullover hoodie with design on front
Pullover hoodie with design on back
Pullover hoodie with design on front + back
Zipper hoodie with design on front
Zipper hoodie with design on back
Zipper hoodie with desing on front + back

Plus there's the issue of who's gonna design and i don't think we should push that to lena/yashan/rita again just because they are the artsy fartsy ones in the class!!

If we do jacket, then most likely we'll be using a jacket that is something like a normal adidas jacket (like the one i usually wear, which i just so happened to lose last friday, AF!$#$%&^*^$%&^*$%$##$^&*!!$#), then we just print a phrase at the back, just below the neck area, something like "409'07: Ugly Is The New Pweddy" or something like that la. words are usually cheaper to print, because the printing companies already have the stencils for the words, as compared to picturesque designs. so if we just use words, we might be able to approach adidas warehouse and see if we can buy the jackets at a cheaper price than the usual market price, because we are buying in bulk (though i'm not too sure if they do allow this kind of thing, eek!)

Yeah and i know a lot of you voted for hoodie already, but just wanted to let you reconsider things from a logistical point-of-view! So do spread the word around about this post when you read it, so that my sms bill doesn't explode again okay!!

Hello all you lovelies!

I hope the past CNY + Take 5 + V'Day has been fruitful and eventful and purdiful for all you little dumplings :D

Anyway, Siyix & I were discussing and we thought that it'd be cool to have a fixed meet-up, on the 9th of each month! And i know some of you smart lightbulbs might be thinking: what if it's on a weekend! Why, my lovelies, we'll just meet on the Friday before that! So for example, if 9th March happens to fall on a Saturday, we'll just meet up on 8th March Friday. It 9th March falls on Sunday, we'll just meet up on 7th March Friday! (:

And what might we be doing on such meet-ups you might ask? Well, Siyix suggested that if a substantial amount of people turn up, we can always go for lunch/dinner/tea/eating session, or if there aren't many many people, then we can just study or catch up with each other!

How cool is this idea please! (: Location and timing is flexible, so as long as you have a big bunch of fellow 409-ers with you, I'm pretty sure other 409-ers will be able to err, spot/hear/see you monkeying around :D

So do mark the 9ths of your year down in your calendars okay! :D

WRITTEN over four centuries ago, Shakespeare's plays continue to have a universal appeal for their absorbing stories (of kings, queens and dukes; of battles, rivalries and political turmoil of the time, of love, honour and betrayal), and also for the sensitive, rich and eloquent use of language, and the memorable array of characters. The plays continue to be performed widely, critically examined and quoted extensively from.

At the same time, one must also recognise that mana people in this fast-paced globalised world have neither the time nor the inclination to read Shakespeare and their half-hearted attempts to do so may be rendered fruitless because of what they perceive to be an impenetrable archaic language.

In spite of that, what is increasingly becoming evident is the versatility of Shakespeare's writings. Several critics suggest--and not always tongue in cheek--that his plays could be taught not just in English Literature classes but also in Business Management lectures and leadership seminars. Prince Philip is widely supposed to have once said "A man [or woman] can be forgiven a lot if he [or she] can quote Shakespearein an economic crisis." In fact, it is perfectly possible and eminently interesting to glean such quotations from Shakespeare's plays.

The relevance of Shakespeare's plays to modern management issues has recently been ackonwledged byt a number of readers and critics. Shakespeare provides thought-provoking insights into issues related to power, authority, leadership, management of risk, of crisis, of emotion: ubiquitous issues in the contemporary business and management scene.

Startling as it may seem, a number o his plays deadling with monarchs, historical changes, wars, manipulations, failures and successes can be read as lessons in leadership and management, the use and abuse of power, the importance of balancing values and responsibilities, and the skills crucial to a leader's success.

These lessons transcend barriers of place, space, and time and are equally relevant in today's context. The principles of good leadership and the hazards of incompetent authority are the same whether applied to sixteenth century England or contemporary management boards.

Shakespeare clearly maintains that order and hierarchy is the basis of harmony. As Ulysses says in Troilus and Cressida:

The heavens themselves, the planets and this centre

Observe degree, priority and place,

Insisture, course, proportion, season, form

Office and custom, in all line of order;

Yet Shakespeare went on to show that those who were born to rule could fail or succeed depending on the leadership skills. His characters can be studied to illustrate points on power, action, communication, and decision-making. King Lear, Richard II, and Mark Antony failed because they believed their authority alone gave them the right to lead and they should be obeyed by virtue of their position.

On the other hand, Henry IV Part I provides valuale lessons of a leader on trust and caution, on developing the potential of one's followers, on understanding their strengths and limitations and on rewarding one's followers.

King Lear may well be read as a cautionary tale about bad management and how 'not' to devolve power and the dangers arising from earliy and ill-planned retirement. King Lear decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters but this divestiture was based on responses which catered to his ego (and which demonstrated his failure to recognise hypocrisy: whoever says she loved him the most would get the biggest share) rather than on sensible planning:

To shake all cares and business from our age;
Conferring them on younger strengths, while we

The play further highlights the need for one leader and the 'unity of command'. When Goneril, the eldest daughter, complains about King Lear's retaining the trappings of power after divesting himself of the kingdom, and the chaos created by Lear's knights, her sister Regan states:

How in one house
Should many people under two commands
Hold amity? 'Tis hard, almost impossible.

The play demonstrates the problems and the disastrous results of a divided leadership and the confusion arising from not recognising one's changing responsibilities.

Macbeth portrays a leader who has no integrity and one whose ambition propels him to destruction. Macbeth starts out as a loyal subject to a good king but following the witches' prediction that he will be king, his latent ambition is kindled and he proceeds to kill the king. He recognises that:

I have no spur
To prick the sides of my intent, but only
Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself
And falls on the other.

Such "vaulting ambition" and the resultant betrayal are to be seen in many organisations. Shakespeare's point is simple: within limits, ambition is positive as it helps to drive change and development; but once it "o'erleaps itself," it becomes destruction to both the manipulator and those within that organisation.

Then there is Hamlet, which highlights the problems resulting from an inability to make decisions, an uncertainty of knowledge and a lack of a coherent plan; but also provides precious nuggets of wisdom for managers.

On business ethics, Hamlet provides the following advice:

This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

And on the need to dress appropriately:

Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express'd in fancy, rich, not gaudy
For the apparel oft proclaims the man.

The Merchant of Venice provides succint advice on how to deal with trouble-makers in the organisation:

The villainy you teach me, I will execute, and it
Shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

The play Othello doesn't mention the phrase "public relations" but Iago could well have that in mind when he says:

Reputation is an idle and most false imposition; oft
Got without merit, and lost without deserving.

There is the scathing statement on performance appraisals from Henry VIII:

His promises were, as he then was, mighty;
But his performance, as he is now, nothing.

The ability to communicate with staff in their own language is extolled in Henry IV Part II:

In Julius Caesar, Cassius convinces Brutus that Caesar must be killed in an exercise which appears to be a hostile takeover, a takeover made easier because Caeser ignores the warnings to "beware the ides of March."

Antony and Cleopatra demonstrates the problems in relationships. Ventidius makes these telling comments about Antony to a fellow officer:

In short, leaders who are nervous, envious or simple uncaring have a counter-productive effect on their staff: a lesson as relevant to Antony's army as it is to a modern organisation.

Shakespeare's plays are packed with insights on management issues, on the use and abuse of power, and on the politics of leadership. Given his brilliant, entertaining and uncannily accurate reflections on the intricacies involved in the pursuit, execution, and loss of power, the Bard could well be called a business management guru.

Heyhey people!

Seeing that this class blog is rather stagnant for a week just like mine, I shall attempt to blog something here! (which i havent done for a long time im sorry =/) anywayy, im putting up the blog post that i wrote on 24/10/07, right after classroom cleaning. It was written for 409 obviously, and it's the reason why I made my blog public, after almost one whole year.

Yes, cause I want you guys to read it. So here's it again, for those who've already read it, im sorry to waste your time! haha (:

Mmhmms, hello world for im gonna make this public for once (:

Alright maybe I shouldnt start this post with that. I really want to make this a good one, but im kinda sick and tired now so i shall make it simple. The real goodbye and thankyous shall wait.

So we finally watched mr teo's wedding proposal video after classroom cleaning (stace and husena had to go look for him walao haha). Yupp, no comments about it except the background music was really nice and it was...romantic and touching (despite the $1 roses -.-)

Mmm we had to rub off everything on our black board, and did i say it was the most amazing board ever? We had like 35 squares, each belonging to one of us in register order. I think many people contributed to the drawings on the board, which kind of represented each of us. Then we had this bottom right hand corner specially for the weekly class jokes, which were mostly sick if you ask me. Haha, siyi was the one who started the whole black board idea i think, thank you big hair :D

Mine was a fish picture, you should know why by now. Then there was "i love lays sour n cream" which is obviously wrong but funny, just like me. And stupid kevy had wrote this "sex bomb sex bomb" lyrics all over cause she was just being randomly crazy. Yeah okay digression.

Then classroom deco, which follows the theme "singing in the rain". We tried to take down all the raindrops on the window panes, it was tough job. Cant seem to get them off completely, or maybe I didnt even want to in the first place. Sal and Siyi did the whole cleaning of black board thing, while more and more people just gathered around at the back of the classroom, watching each and every square disappear, without even a picture to remember how crazy we once were, how we all had a different yet special entity within this amazing class itself.

It's been a year studying in this classroom, been 2 years I have known every one of the niners. and I dont know how long it will be to remember you guys, or to forget some of you.

So i was walking around, and lena looked like she was really gonna cry and so i sat beside her. We stared at the black board. Then I thought of us. How Lena and I began getting really close through the times when i really needed someone to talk to, and she was the one who gave me strength, trust and care. Unreserved. And I will always remember that.

Then I see xinying, then I think of yinfei, sal and maybe jnanee. How we were all a part of 207'05 but we forgot about it all too fast. It was a good and less painful thing to do, because that class, I wouldnt say love at all. But I am grateful for that class, because it made me treasure 309 and 409 more. It made me grow, really really. As a person. Throughout these 4 years, it has certainly been most memorable yet painful to think of those days in sec 1 and 2, but i thank you for the memories, even though they werent so good.

Then alina joined me and sat beside me on the tables for a while. Just a while, and I thought of last year when we were close, but just for a while too. Haha would you kill me if i mention all these stuff, how she'd cried so badly beside me watching 'I not stupid" and got me crying too, although i was planning to comfort her. How she asked me to go study with her but I always rejected last minute cause I was being too petty. And how slowly we become who we are now. But it's all good, because while you sit with me, and we look at the things we share disappear together, I thank God for having you in my life, before it taught everyone to be more complicated and reserved.

Then there was szeyen, who came around and started hugging everyone. She didnt reach me though, but I know what she was trying to do. We wanted to thank every one, for sharing these 2 years together, for growing up together and despite the sad/happy times, thanks for sharing with me, even though you didnt make the choice to. And there are of course, a few, just a few i wont be greedy, whom we want to keep in our lives just a while longer, as long as we can actually.

Then there was arias, who made me hold some weird beads for her while she wandered off somewhere. So i thought of last year, how i always called her cat and said "fish loves cat, we will never be enemies for real" but we kind of did. So the rest of the year was spent like that between us, but no one knew how happy I was to have received her email on the first day this year. It's the best new year present ever. And now we've become closer, thank you arias for forgiving and forgetting, for confiding in me and trusting me, for helping me and cheering me up when i was sad over chem results. I appreciated every bit of it. Thank you cat :D

There are still many people. Like lydia, who was going around throwing rubbish. And I would walk up to her and tease her like I always do, but when I told her I love her very very much, she'd always know I mean it more than anything else I've ever said to her.

Then there is latha. the awesomest class chair and friend ever, who will care at the most difficult times. Cows ftw. Then noisy and crazy people like wanqi and val, whom Im not really close to but they do make a difference in the class, in our lives.

Dont you understand, besides the times we actually bitched about each other, had internal rivalry, and fell into different cliques, we are one big family. this is 409 and im proud to say im a niner. Know when we always say we know teachers and other classes have been saying how 409 is so not disciplined and crazy, but that look on our faces tells me, you're proud to be one of us still. And it's always the right and wrong people you meet in the stages of growing up that teach you about life, about giving up and letting go. About loving with your heart and caring truthfully for someone. About knowing what you really want, who you really are and who will stick with you long long time.

Even if there were the bad times, when some ppl make you sadder than never before, you thank them. Without them, you most probably wouldnt be who you are today. We learn from each other, through all the setbacks we face tgr, or the problems we actually give each other. So here's a sincere thank you. For all the love, all the criticisms, all the judgements, all the forsaking and parting. Because they made a difference in how i have become today, and im proud to say, i love raffles. I love rgs. Nevermind the education system we always grumble about, nevermind the failures in tests we always have, nevermind those rumours around that only we know deeply that they hurt us big time, nevermind the late nights we had to endure for the neverending pts and work.

Nevermind everything else, because we took so much out of it all. i didnt live up to expectations, but im glad ive perservered and stayed on this track to the best i can. and for the friends ive made, who make me smile and who makes up almost my whole world. to those who hated or still hates me, thank you. it's through you that i got to know who are my real friends, and it's you who tells me there is no perfect person. you cant be liked by everyone, and who you really are actually depends on how you present yourself, not just what you always tell yourself you are.

so i shall end it here, and write a better post next time. i miss the black board, the dirty old jokes. the class playlist, our raindops and umbrellas. and in the end, it's every one of you. not just in 409, but in the whole level. it's 4 years, 4 years in our adolescent years. it's not really that short, to have the same faces changing with you, and not really that long, to really give us a second chance to start over and be a better person. so no time for regrets, and the time goes on. but just for now,

if i could choose again, i say raffles, definitely.

ez-link card with money in it! (very important!!)
cutlery (not the disposable kind, or not we will not let you eat your food! includes table cloth, so that you can clean up after yourself :D)

lots of money (specifically $11 for chalet renting, this one vvvvvvv important cos i paid for chalet with my own money, so you guys better bring or not i...idk. wave chopper/scissors at you? yeah! and then also extra cash of course, should you need to buy anything else like extra food. and also, we'll be having dinner outside on 2nd day in orchard [don't ask why orchard so far]. so in all, just bring a lot la okay?)
water bottle! (very important too, cos we don't want anyone to die of dehydration!!!)

sleeping bag/cushions (for those staying over)

hello people!

thank you for a wonderful saturday :) it's moments like these that makes me never want to leave rgs.
what makes me so thankful for being in 409 is our spirit and optimism and that 409 is 409. what you see is what you get :D others may view it as being unfocused/heck care... but seriously, who wants to dry up all the humour around :)
i will never forget playing on court admidst the cheering from you guys. and the little things everyone did... like yinfei helping me to carry my bottle, the cheerers being so enthu, yashan and ailin going 'yeahh' in tht supergay voice... during trainings when we gossiped, pole danced under joy and stacey's guidance, clapped ad cheered like morons when someone scored (even if she was from another class)... and of course, going to the sewing room with zhimin and rita to only malu ourselves, whitewashing with aunt lydia and watching secret together :)
and of course to everyone out there, you are a part of the class! There are too many memories to be typed out here but just want you to know (backstreet boys, haha) that... everything would have been incomplete without YOU :D

today was awesome, FOUROHNINE! even though we didnt win every match, we still rocked the courts. even though we were tired, no one can ever say we didn't put up a damn awesome fight for every match. even though we picked up numerous serious/minor injuries and scrapes, we fought for every ball and rebound. even though we got pissed off by certain people and we pissed off certain people, we still managed to smile and shake the hands of those we played against. even though we didn't win overall, people still recognised the team the banner the cheers the shirt. even though we might not have been the strongest or the fittest or the fastest, every single one of us, the players cheerers supporters FOUROHNINERS, were simply the best.

Here's a very happy birthday to you 409 (: Take it personally, its to each of 35 of us, without any single one it wouldnt be a class. I love you guys, seriously, its been great going thru almost 2 years together now. We missed our class birthday last year cause we werent that bonded then i think, so not anymore this year <3

i swear miss huang is the most awesomeee lit teacher i've had (well not that i had many since she taught me twice)

today during physics was noissyyyy, haha but i kinda really enjoy the laughter, craziness and stuff. i loved it when lydia told me she thinks there's a lot of life in me. afterall im still young isnt it=) there's still so much more to go and experience, through this whole long journey of self-discovery, everytime we think we're successful in understanding something we always sound like we know everything. but thats okay, cause in the end we will know its not true.

Just a little smth, for the benefit of those who didn't go!

"Death and the Maiden"! it was gooood

"A Skeleton In The Closet For String Quartet And Invited Ghosts" This one was really fun! The conductor emerged wearing Kevy's skeleton jacket to look like a skeleton man, as shown in the picture; then throughout the piece there were random skeletons emerging from backstage and from behind the audience, going around shaking their skeleton bones : D !

Uh i didnt want to put this cause i look so stupid=.= but bo bian..

Kevy was being busy and running around so she wasnt in the group photo. She was so busy that we had to wait half hr long just to take this pic! : D
